OCD Forum - How to Ace a Job Interview
Have you ever applied to a job that a hundred other people were applying for? Well if you have you know that competition for that job can be fierce. So how to do stand out among all the other resumes so you can get the interview?
On you resume’ put interesting things that you’ve done, like skied mt. everest, or if you were in the marines, don’t just put that, put something great you did while in the marines, like, I saved to soldiers from a hail of gunfire.
Interviewers are probably bored at their job and if you excite them, they will contact you.
Then when you get the interview you want to remain the same way. Don’t answer questions the way everyone else does. If they ask you what your flaws are, tell them. If they ask you what your strengths are, don’t say, “I’m a people person.” Boo. Everyone says this, you want to stand out. What’s in it for them if they hire you? Why should they hire you?
Think about this and you can tell them what you’ve done at other jobs and tell them something funny that happened. Make sure to keep it brief.
Don’t go to your interview all nervous. If you can’t handle the pressure of the interview, how are you going to handle the pressure of the job? That is what they will think, so you gotta do what you can to act like you’ve been through this before.
Be confident, don’t fidget and answer questions the way you normally would. Make eye contact and smile. Joke with them a little bit, but then get serious, show them you can be both. Feel the interviewer out and ask them some questions, why not, they’re asking you questions. Find out what kind of person they are with a few quick questions in between theirs.
You can ask them something like, “How do you like working here?” or, “How did you get into this field?” Make the interview a conversation and not just them grilling you. Stand out by being different in a positive and professional way.
Do NOT ask them how much the pay is or any questions like that. Wait for the second or third interview, but make sure you find out before you decide to go with them.
A huge tip is this, have the mindset of, “You are interviewing them.” Why should you work for them, what’s in it for you. This will make you stand out. Depending on how well you related with the interviewer and how well you fit the position, you’ll get hired. If they don’t hire you, don’t sweat it, do you really want to work for a company that doesn’t want you?
If they don’t hire you, ask them why so you can learn from this experience and do better at your next interview. If you do these things, you’ll be way ahead of the game.
Take action: Do the above things. If you get rejected, ask why. Learn from it and do better at your next interview.
